Raiders set for 2025 Horizon League Cross Country Championships

DAYTON — The Wright State men's and women's cross country programs will compete in the 2025 Horizon League Championship on Saturday, November 1, at the Mastodon Cross Country Course in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The men's 8,000-meter run will go off at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 6,000-meter race at 12 p.m. The award ceremony will begin shortly after the conclusion of the women's race. Tickets for the championship event are free, however parking is $10 adjacent to the course and spectators are highly encouraged to purchase in advance.

CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND
Last November at the 2024 Horizon League Championship in Green Bay, the Wright State men turned in an eighth-place overall finish and the Raider women were 11th. Former Raider Emma Johnson turned in a time of 22:07.5 on the way to her 12th-place finish, just a minute off the top times and within five seconds of a top 10 finish. Patrick Statzer led the Raiders in the men's 8K race, finishing 27th with a time of 25:43.6.
LAST TIME OUT
Wright State completed its final tune-ups last Friday night by hosting the Wild Bill Invite at Fairborn Community Park. The Wright State women finished first among two complete teams, while the Raider men were first in their three-team field.
The Raiders had 16 individuals complete in the women's 6,000-meter race and seven Wright State women were in the top 15, paced by Samantha Seas in seventh with her 18:45.7 time. Wright State had six of the next eight finishers, with Kaitlyn Miller (eighth, 18:58.6) and Sydney Thompson (ninth, 19:08.6) next through the line, followed by Shelby Hept (11th, 19:10.4), Reece Barnitz (12th, 19:14.2) and Kaitlin Thomas (13th, 19:18.8) with Carolyn Johnson (15th) steps behind at 19:33.3.
Nathan Sheriff paced nine Raiders with his fifth-place mark of 26:22.7 in the men's 8,000-meter race, with Santino Diligente (ninth, 26:56.9), Ian Ricker (10th, 27:00.6) and Nicholas Hoelscher (11th, 27:04.5) all crossing as a group, with Reece Page (14th, 27:18.5) also finishing within the top 15.
HORIZON LEAGUE RECOGNITION
Wright State swept the weekly Horizon League honors after their showings at the Wild Bill Invite, the League announced on Tuesday. Samantha Seas was the HL Women's Runner of the Week and Alexa West was the HL Women's Freshman of the Week, while Nathan Sheriff was Men's Runner of the Week and Santino Diligente was the HL Men's Freshman of the Week.

Following the Horizon League Championships, the Raiders will compete at the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Friday, November 14, in Evansville, Indiana. The top two teams from each regional will automatically advance to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
