CLEVELAND – The Wright State volleyball team took down Cleveland State in four sets for the second-straight afternoon as the Raiders received double-digit kills from
Mya Ayro and
Katie Sowko.
Wright State (10-6, 4-1 Horizon League) took the opening two sets, 25-11 and 25-17, before Cleveland State (2-14, 0-5 Horizon League) rallied for a 25-21 third set win. The Raiders then jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back in the fourth set, winning 25-14 to wrap up the weekend.
Wright State now returns home to McLin Gymnasium for its next four matches, first welcoming Youngstown State next weekend before a pair of contests against Milwaukee on October 17 and 18.
The Raiders finished Saturday afternoon hitting .328 as a group, high marked by a .500 first set percentage that saw 13 kills against just one error. Cleveland State hit .000 in that opening set before ending with a .189 team hitting mark.
Ayro turned in 14 kills and added six digs to pace Wright State as Sowko notched 13 kills with seven digs and a trio of service aces.
Taylor Bransfield hit .818 and found the floor with nine kills in 11 total swings, adding three blocks, while
Reilly Zegunis finished with nine kills of her own and three service aces and
Elena Dubuc chipped in seven kills and seven digs.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 41 of Wright State's 53 assists, adding 12 digs for another double-double, with
Taygan Corstange collecting a match-best 17 digs and
Ella Gaona also finishing with double figure digs with 10 of her own.
Laken Voss led Cleveland State with 15 kills and added eight digs while Isabella Gibbons had 31 assists for the hosts in the loss.
