DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a Saturday afternoon sweep over Oakland inside McLin Gymnasium on Senior Day.
Wright State (19-10, 13-5 Horizon) now gets set to go into next weekend's Horizon League Championship as the No. 2 seed. The tournament, hosted by top seed Northern Kentucky, will begin for the Raiders on Saturday against the highest remaining seed, with the championship set for Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, the Raiders took three tight sets over Oakland (7-23, 7-11 Horizon), grabbing the opening set 25-22 before a 25-20 second set and a 25-21 third set to complete the sweep. Wright State hit .336 as a group with 53 kills against just 13 errors, while Oakland hit .259 overall, including a .429 mark in the tight final set.
Wright State was led by
Katie Sowko's match-high 14 kills as she finished just shy of a double-double with nine digs, while
Taylor Bransfield notched 12 kills and had two blocks on her Senior Day.
Mya Ayro added 11 kills of her own as
Reilly Zegunis had eight kills and
Elena Dubuc turned in a seven-kill effort on her Senior Day.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 46 of the Raiders' 49 assists, while defensively
Ella Gaona had a match-best 18 digs as
Greta McKee and
Taygan Corstange each added seven digs.
Libby Smith finished with 11 kills and Carolina Moore added 10 kills for the visitors, with Lyse Bates (12) and Molly Reck (11) both tallying double figure digs in the loss.
