SPRINGFIELD, OH – The Wright State track & field squads had a successful Saturday at the Steemer Showcase, breaking four men's school records as the women finished fifth among 19 teams and the men were seventh out of 17 squads.
The Raiders saw three of the four records broken in field events, with
Oliver Murray resetting his own mark in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.60 meters on the way to finishing third.
Jacob Holbert notched a 6.63m mark for the new men's long jump record, while
Greyson Pollock turned in a 12.83m distance in the men's triple jump to break that record, with both finishing fourth in their respective events.
The final record breaker came on the track, where Nick Hoelscher turned in a time of 1:55.16 in the men's 800-meter race, leading three Raiders in the top 20 finishers for the event, with
Logan Eggert following in 17th with his 1:57.49 mark and
Andrew Bugner at 1:58.58 for 20th.
Bugner paced four Raider men in the mile race, finishing ninth with a 4:20.60 time, followed by
Blake Rodgers (4:27.19) and
Ben Schrumpf (4:27.60) in 13th and 14th, respectively, with
Michael Cole moments behind in 17th at 4:29.52.
The Wright State women notched a trio of first place finishes on Saturday, with
Lylla Kovacs grabbing the top spot in the women's 60-meter hurdles with her 9.01 time and
Cierra Lively clearing 1.68m to win the women's high jump.
Emma Johnson won the women's mile run with her time of 5:08.88, leading three Raiders in the top eight, with
Samantha Seas (5:31.37) and
Carolyn Johnson (5:35.24) following behind in seventh and eighth.
Emma Johnson added a 16th-place finish (2:25.15) in the women's 800 meters, with Seas just behind her in 25th (2:32.57).
Meredith Goecke finished second in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.55 meters.
Two Raiders were inside the top 15 in the women's 5,000-meter run, paced by
Reece Barnitz's time of 18:43.06 for ninth, with
Anna Johnson 14th with her 19:02.11 mark. Wright State had four finishers inside the top 20 in the men's 3,000-meter run, with
Alex McCarty in eighth (8:24.96) leading the way, followed by
Evan McPherson (11, 8:39.70),
Patrick Statzer (14, 8:52.03) and
Matthew Lee (19, 9:02.52).
Wright State is back in action next weekend with select athletes competing at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open on Friday, while most of the team will be back in Springfield for next Saturday's Gem City Invitational.
