Trio of Raiders Hit Double Figures in Win over Oakland

DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team secured a 60-53 victory over Oakland on Wednesday night, led by three Raiders scoring in double figures. Lauren Scott and Amaya Staton each posted 15 points, while Makiya Miller added 11.
Wright State (8-19, 6-11 HL) ended the night shooting 40.4 percent from the floor, going 3-of-15 from three, and 15-of-16 on the free throw line. The Raiders were led by Scott and Staton with 15 points each. Joining in the double-digit scoring was Miller with 11 points. Claire Henson closely trailed with nine points on the night, while Chloe Chard Peloquin added six points for the Raiders.
Staton recorded her 11th double-double of the season, leading the team with 12 rebounds. Miller and Henson followed, with six and five rebounds, respectively. Staton led the team with four steals and two blocks.
The Raiders were in a three-point deficit after the first, 14-11, shooting 29.4 percent from the floor in the period. Staton led the team with five points and three rebounds, closely followed by Chard Peloquin with four points. After Oakland opened the day with a layup, Staton was quick to tie the score with a layup of her own, making it a three-point play on the line, before Miller made gave WSU a three-point lead with another layup, 5-2. Continuing with points in the paint, Chard Peloquin sunk two layups with a Golden Grizzlies three-pointer between, 9-7. After an Oakland five-point run, Staton added a Rylee Sagester assisted layup, before Oakland ended the quarter with another shot in the paint, 14-11.
Miller and Scott opened the second quarter strong, as Miller went two-of-two on the line, followed by Scott with a jumper inside the arc to lower Oakland's advantage to one, 16-15. After Scott went two-of-two on the line between two Golden Grizzlies layups, Miller put up a jumper from outside the three-point circle, tying the score at 20. Oakland briefly regained the lead 22-20, but WSU quickly regained the advantage with a three by Henson, 23-22. Staton put up back-to-back layups, raising the Raider's lead to five at the half, 27-22.
Oakland came back strong after the halftime break, taking a seven-point lead by the end of the third, outscoring the Raiders 22-10. Scott led the team in the third, going two-of-four from the floor, while three Raiders– Henson, Miller, and Sagester– each went two-of-two on the free throw line.
The Raiders were powered in the final period, shooting 64.3 percent from the floor while holding Oakland to shooting two-of-nine. Scott led the team in the fourth, recording seven points, followed by Staton with six points and Henson with four. The Raiders opened the quarter on a 10-3 run, tying the score at 47 with five minutes remaining. The run included jumpers from Scott and Staton, layups from Olivia Brown and Scott, and two free throws from Staton. Out of the media timeout, Miller's layup put WSU ahead 49-47. The Golden Grizzlies briefly tied the score, but a three-point jumper by Scott regained the Raider lead, 52-49. Henson and Staton combined for six points with under two minutes remaining, 58-51. Chard Peloquin added the last points of the night, going two-of-two on the line, 60-53.
