ST. LOUIS – The Wright State bowling team split a pair of best-of-seven baker matches to finish the Columbia 300 Saints Invite on Sunday, falling in the championship match against No. 7 Wichita State to finish the event second in the 15-team field.
The Raiders won their opening match of the day, also against Wichita State, fighting back after falling behind 2-0 with three straight sets and later the clinching seventh set, to advance to the finals. Wichita State worked its way back to the title match with a win over Louisiana Tech to force the rematch from the morning session.
In the championship match, Wright State again dropped the first two sets before bouncing back with three straight set wins. Wichita State responded with a tight, sixth-set win and later won a close seventh and deciding set to grab the title and give the Raiders the second-place finish.
Wright State finished the weekend with an 8-3 record and a 214.6 average as a group, while
Mia Sayles was first individually and named tournament MVP after averaging 241.8 over five games, including her perfect 300 rolled during Saturday's action.
The Raiders are back in action next weekend as they travel to Illinois for the Flyer Classic, with competition running Friday through Sunday in the Chicagoland suburbs.
