Women’s Basketball Heads to Cleveland for Final Road Game of the Regular Season

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team will travel to Cleveland for its final regular season road matchup, taking on Cleveland State on Wednesday, February 26. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff and will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Overcoming a 16-point deficit, Wright State defeated Northern Kentucky, 68-62, on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders shot 41.1 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from three, and 76.5 percent at the free-throw line.
 
Four Raiders scored in double figures leading the team to its third consecutive win. Makiya Miller paced the Raiders with 14 points, while Amaya Staton added 12. Ellie Magestro-Kennedy and Macie Taylor joined in the double-digit scoring, adding 11 and 10 points, respectively. Claire Henson added nine points for the Raiders, leading the team with five assists. Staton recorded her 12th double-double of the season, grabbing a team-leading 13 rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State currently sits at 22-7 on the season, clinching the Horizon League No. 3 seed with a 13-5 conference record. The Vikings recently defeated Robert Morris, 85-53, previously falling to Green Bay, 59-50.   
 
CSU leads the HL in shooting at 47.3 percent from the floor, ranking No. 12 nationally, and in free throw percentage (77.8), sitting fifth in the nation with 16.79 free throws made per game. The Vikings are shooting 34.9 percent from three, averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game. CSU leads the HL in rebounding, averaging 38.31 rebounds per game with a 7.4 rebounding margin, ranked No. 24 nationally.
 
Leading the way for CSU is Mickayla Perdue, averaging 19.8 points per game. Junior forward Jordana Reisma's 67.6 field goal percentage is second best in the nation behind Isnelle Natabou of FIU. Destiny Leo leads the team and ranks third in the HL with a 42.2 three-point percentage, sitting No. 13 in the nation with 2.79 three-pointers per game. Sara Guerreiro leads the Vikings in rebounding, sitting third in the league with 7.8 rebounds per game.
 
HISTORY VS. CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State holds a narrow 46-42 edge in the all-time series against Wright State. The teams last met in December, with CSU winning 85-71.
 
LEAGUE STANDINGS
Wright State is currently tied for fifth in the Horizon League, sitting alongside Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky with a 7-11 conference record. Above them is Green Bay (18-1), Purdue Fort Wayne (17-1), Cleveland State (13-5), and Robert Morris (8-10). Three teams–Youngstown State, Oakland, and IU Indy–are tied for eighth with a 6-12 HL record. Milwaukee rounds out the league going 5-14 in conference.
 
Wright State can secure a top-eight seed with a win Wednesday combined with a Youngstown State loss.
 
STATON HAS 'EM SEEING DOUBLE
Amaya Staton is no stranger to double-figure stats, recording a double-double in the last six games—the first Raider to do so in recent program history. Staton's streak began against Northern Kentucky, posting 16 points and 15 rebounds. She followed with 22 points and 11 rebounds against IU Indy, then 13 points and 11 rebounds at Purdue Fort Wayne. At Youngstown State, Staton put up a season-high 23 points while matching a career best 16 rebounds. Staton recorded her fifth consecutive double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Oakland, extending it to six with 12 points and 13 rebounds at NKU.
 
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, redshirt freshman guard Rylee Sagester became the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, named Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to its first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over those two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three, making 5-of-8 from deep. She averaged 10 points per game, tying Claire Henson for the team lead with 15 points against UDM, including 4-of-5 from three.
 
SHOWING OFF IN THE CLASSROOM
The Wright State women's basketball team excels both on and off the court, with all 13 student-athletes achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better after the Fall 2024 semester. Additionally, the team posted the highest term GPA in the department, finishing with a 3.753. Cumulatively, the team holds a 3.615 grade point average.
