Women’s Basketball Falls to Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Cleveland State 81-46 on Wednesday evening. The Raiders wrap up the regular season at home against Robert Morris on Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. The game will stream on ESPN+ and have live stats provided.
 
Wright State (9-20, 7-12 HL) finished shooting 30.5 percent from the field, as Amaya Staton led the team with her seventh consecutive double-double, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Brown contributed seven points, while Rylee Sagester added six, hitting back-to-back threes in the fourth quarter. Abbie Riddle dished out a team-high four assists, followed by Henson with two.
 
Cleveland State took a 21-point lead into halftime, limiting Wright State to 16.1 percent shooting, including three-of-four from the free throw line. Riddle, Lauren Scott, Staton, and Taylor each scored on a layup, while Henson added a jumper from outside the paint. Brown went two-of-two from the free throw line, and Staton added one.
 
The Raiders showed significant improvement after halftime, surpassing their first-half scoring with 16 third-quarter points on 7-of-16 shooting. Staton led the team with six points, followed by Brown with five. After a Staton hook shot, Brown hit the first Raider three just over a minute into the half. Staton added a layup and a jumper before Makiya Miller scored her first points with a jump shot, converting it into a three-point play at the line. Brown and Chard Peloquin added the final Raider points of the quarter, each adding a jumper in the paint.
 
Wright State shot 50 percent in the fourth quarter, with Sagester's back-to-back threes leading the way with six points. Henson put the first WSU points on the board with a free throw, followed by Staton adding two layups and a free throw. Scott and Ellie Magestro-Kennedy each added a jumper in the paint. Henson went 1-of-2 from the free throw line before Sagester's consecutive threes closed out the Raiders' scoring.
 
Cleveland State shot 57.4 percent overall, including 4-of-16 from three-point range and 15-of-21 from the free throw line. Mickayla Perdue paced Cleveland State with 20 points, while Sara Guerreiro added 17. Guerreiro and Destiny Leo each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Mya Moore recorded six blocks.
