Women’s Basketball Readies to take on IU Indy

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball team will stay in the Nutter Center, welcoming IU Indy on Wednesday, February 5. The 7 p.m. game will stream on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State moved to 4-9 in the Horizon League after defeating Northern Kentucky 75-67 on Saturday, February 1. WSU ended the day shooting 45 percent overall the from the floor, going 18-of-21 on the free throw line. The team had four players reach double-figure scoring, led by Amaya Staton securing her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Joining in the double-digits were Macie Taylor with 13 points, Lauren Scott with 12 points, and Makiya Miller with 11 points. Olivia Brown led the team adding five of WSU's ten assists.
Following Staton's 13 rebounds was Taylor with five and Henson with four. Staton ended the day with three blocks. Miller and Chloe Chard Peloquin both had two steals, while Henson and Staton had one each.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IU Indy is currently 5-17 on the season, sitting tied for ninth in the Horizon League alongside the Raiders with a 4-9 conference record. The Jaguars recently fell at Milwaukee, 66-62, and Green Bay, 76-54, their last win coming against Wright State 75-63 on January 15.
As a team, IUI is shooting 39.3 percent overall from the floor, 30.2 percent from three, and 72.2 percent on the free throw line. They rank fifth in the HL with 19.7 bench points per game.

Graduate forward Amaya Staton secured her seventh double-double of the season in just two periods in a 75-67 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday, February 1. Staton was in double-figures in scoring and rebounding at the half, tallying a team leading 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Staton ended the day recording 16 points while grabbing 13 off the backboard.
SAGESTER: FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
On January 13, junior guard Rylee Sagester was the first Raider to earn Horizon League weekly honors, being named the Freshman of the Week. A native of West Alexandria, Ohio, Sagester helped the team to their first two HL wins, defeating Detroit Mercy, 67-64, and Youngstown State, 77-62. Over the two games, Sagester shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three, going five-of-eight from behind the arc. She averaged 10 points per game, leading the team alongside Claire Henson with 15 points against UDM, sinking four-of-five from three.
RECORD MATCHED
On Sunday, January 12, in a 77-62 win over Youngstown State, Amaya Staton matched the program record for blocks in a game, recording seven on the day. The record had been previously set over 40 years prior by Christi Hill against Georgetown on January 16, 1982.
SHOWING OFF IN THE CLASSROOM
The Wright State women's basketball team shines both on and off the court, as all 13 student-athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better after the Fall 2024 Semester. Additionally, the team ended the Fall semester with the highest term grade point average of the department, combining for a 3.753. Cumulatively, the team holds a 3.615 grade point average.

WSU will get back on the road to take on Purdue Fort Wayne at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, and Youngstown State on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ and have live stats provided.
