Raiders find podium in Day 1 HL action

FORT WAYNE – The Wright State track & field programs turned in several strong showings on the opening day of the 2025 Horizon League Indoor Championships on Saturday, including a pair of fourth-place finishes.

Action continues on Sunday, with the second and final day of competition starting at 9 a.m. with the final three events of the heptathlon. The high jump begins at 10:15 a.m. with the triple jump and shot put getting underway at 11 a.m. Running events, all finals, start at 1 p.m. inside Lutheran Health Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.

On Saturday Meredith Goecke cleared 3.71 meters in the women's pole vault to finish fourth in the event, while the clearance is now ranked second all-time on the Raider list. Wright State was strong in the men's pole vault as well, with Oliver Murray tying for fourth with his 4.50 meter clearance.

Lylla Kovacs finished seventh overall in the women's pentathlon with a score 3,302 points, which now ranks fourth on the Raider all-time list. Kovacs was second in the pentathlon 60m hurdles (8.90 seconds) and fifth in the pentathlon long jump (5.39m) while finishing seventh in the pentathlon 800m (2:30.77) and pentathlon high jump (1.51m).

On the track, Emma Johnson paced Wright State in the women's 5,000m run, finishing ninth with a mark of 17:57.10, while in the men's 5,000m run, five Raiders finished inside the top 25, led by Alex McCarty in 10th (14:42.08) and Patrick Statzer (15:10.97) in 15th.
