Staton's Double Double Not Enough on Her Senior Day

FAIRBORN- Amaya Staton was honored in a pre-game ceremony and recorded her eighth-straight double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds in a 73-57 setback to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon inside the Nutter Center.

Both teams started off hot on Saturday, hitting three of their first four attempts from the field. The Colonials used a 9-0 run out of the first quarter media timeout to grab the eight-point advantage they'd have at the end of the first quarter.

A top-of-the-key three from Staton got the Raiders' offense going in the second quarter, but momentum stayed on the side of the visitors from the Steel City. Robert Morris' lead grew to 16 before a pair of buckets from Chloe Chard Peloquin chipped into the advantage. Both Raider post players were in double figures on Saturday with Chard Peloquin adding in 10 points off the bench. A final Colonial surge closed the half and saw the lead grow to 20 at 44-24 as the teams headed to the locker room.

The lead grew to a high-water mark of 23 in the third quarter before the Raiders cut into the lead in the fourth. Wright State started the quarter on a 7-2 run that started with a Makiya Miller three. The teams traded buckets over the middle of the final frame before a Macie Taylor three cut the RMU lead to 14. Taylor had a team-high 14 points on Saturday afternoon.

But the Colonials would salt away the game from the foul line and clinched the number-four seed in the upcoming Horizon League tournament.

Both teams put three players in double figures, RMU was led by Noa Givon's game high 15 points and six rebounds. The Colonials shot 51 percent from the field and did well in transition, scoring 10 fast-break points and 21 off turnovers. Despite being out rebounded overall 38-29, the Raiders won the battle of the offensive boards 11-8, leading to eight-second chance points.

Despite the setback, the Raiders secured the number-eight seed and an opening round home game in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament. Wright State will host the ninth-seeded Youngstown State Penguins on Tuesday night with a 5:30 tip-off and will stream on ESPN+.
