CEDARVILLE, OH – With nearly 12 hours of competition among more than 1,200 total athletes, the Wright State track & field programs had a productive showing at the Yellow Jacket Open at Cedarville on Saturday.
The Wright State women finished 10th of 24 complete participating teams while the Raider men were 19th of 23 complete squads in action, as the Raiders themselves had nearly 60 student-athletes competing throughout the day, which began at 10 a.m. and concluded around 9 p.m. after a full day of action.
Cierra Lively grabbed her second straight outdoor meet title in the women's high jump, clearing 1.68m, while teammate
Olivia Aills finished in a tie for seventh after clearing 1.53m. On the men's side,
Greyson Pollock cleared 1.95m to finish just shy of the top 2.00m mark, while
Jahi McDonald was tied for seventh with his 1.90m clearance.
Meredith Goecke cleared 3.79m to grab a third-place finish in the women's pole vault, with
Jacob Holbert clearing 6.29m to finish 15th in the men's pole vault, an event Pollock also competed in and finished 17th with his 6.19m mark.
On the track,
Lylla Kovacs was third in the women's 100m hurdles with a 14.57 time, while
Hannah Falknor finished fourth in the women's 100m dash with her 11.81 second mark. Faulknor later added a 25.03 second time in the women's 200m dash to finish 13th.
The distance runners were a plenty, with nine Raiders running in the men's 1,500m run and 11 Raiders competing in the women's 1,500m run. The Wright State women had four finishers inside the top 25, paced by
Emma Johnson's 4:44.00 mark, followed by a cluster of Raiders –
Shelby Hept (19, 4:59.17),
Anna Johnson (22, 5:01.95) and
Reece Barnitz (23, 5:02.86). The Raider men were led by
Ethan Neblock (4:02.32) and
Andrew Bugner (4:04.12) in 10th and 11th, respectively, while
Jacob Craig was also inside the top 25 with his 4:11.89 mark good for 23rd.
Mia Wyngarden led 16 Wright State women in their 800m run, finishing fourth at 2:18.44, just off the top time, while
Emma Johnson was 12th at 2:22.09, followed by
Alexa Magoteaux (20, 2:24.63), Luci Kuh (22, 2:25.48) and Barnitz (25, 2:29.16). A pair of Raider men were inside the top 20 in their 800m run, with
Logan Eggert 10th (1:58.32) and Bugner just behind him at 1:59.27 in 18th.
Wright State is set to be back in action next Saturday, April 5 at the Jim Vargo Invitational hosted by Bellarmine. Action is tentatively set to get underway at 10 a.m. with field events and at 11:45 a.m. on the track.
