RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Wright State baseball team fell to NC State 6-4 in game one of the three-game series on Friday afternoon. The Raiders will play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on the ACC Network, with live stats available.
Wright State (4-7) finished with four runs on nine hits with one walk and 15 strikeouts.
Luke Arnold,
Boston Smith, and
Hunter Warren each recorded two hits, while
Conlan Daniel,
Patrick Fultz, and
Cam Gilkerson added one hit apiece. WSU recorded three extra-base hits—a double by Gilkerson and back-to-back home runs by Arnold and Daniel. Fultz added the lone Raider walk on the day.
NC State opened scoring in the bottom of the third, doubling down the right field line for two runs. The Raiders responded in the top of the fourth, as Fultz was walked, advancing to third on a Warren single. With
Nate Manley at the plate, Fultz scored on a wild pitch, making it 2-1.
NC State extended its lead to 5-1 in the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch, an RBI groundout, and an RBI walk. The game stayed scoreless in the fifth, as the Raiders put up another run in the sixth. After getting on base with a single to third, Fultz again advanced to third on a Warren single, scoring on a catcher throwing error while Warren stole second, 5-2. NC State answered with a triple followed by a sacrifice fly for their sixth and final run, 6-2.
The Raiders capped their scoring in the seventh with two outs, as Arnold homered on the first pitch into left field, 6-3. Daniel, a freshman centerfielder, followed with his first collegiate home run, cutting the deficit to 6-4, which held as the final score.

Mychal Grogan (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in three innings. Grogan started strong, striking out two batters in the first inning.
NC State (9-5) ended the day with six runs on 10 hits with seven walks and just two strikeouts. The Wolfpack were led by leftfielder Josh Hogue with three hits, including a double, driving in two runs. Luke Nixon had two hits on the day, both for extra bases with a double in the fourth and a triple in the sixth Starting pitcher. Dominic Fritton (2-1) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out 10 and walked one. Jacob Dudan (S, 1) was awarded the save, pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
