DAYTON – The Wright State bowling team finished sixth overall at the USBC Sectionals at Smyrna Bowling Center just outside of Nashville, tallying 5,700 pins on Sunday for a 11,956 two-day total pinfall on the way to the sixth-place finish in the 20-team field.
Jacksonville State grabbed the top spot with 13,030 pins over two days, followed by Savannah College of Art & Design with 12,596 pins, with Maryville in third (12,521 pins) and Stephen F. Austin fourth (12,488) to complete the four advancing teams to the USBC Nationals.
Maryland-Eastern Shore finished fifth with 12,322, just ahead of the Raiders in sixth, who were 532 pins outside of the top four positions.
On Sunday, the Raiders bowled a pair of four game Baker blocks, tallying 2,711 pins in the first block with a 169.4 average game score, dropping from third to sixth heading into the afternoon session. In the final session, Wright State collected 2,989 pins (186.8 average game score) to finish with their 11,956 total two-day pinfall, finishing the weekend with a 186.8 average game score.
Wright State is back in action March 14-16, again at Smyrna Bowling Center, for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.
