DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team defeated Milwaukee 14-7 on Saturday afternoon, moving to 17-3 in the Horizon League. The Raiders will go for the series win Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Raiders were the first on the board as
Boston Smith drove in
Braylen Blomquist with a double to left field in the bottom of the second. MKE quickly responded, tying the game with an RBI single up the middle in the third. The Panthers took a brief one-run lead after scoring on a single in the fourth, but WSU regained the advantage with two runs in the bottom half.
Luke Arnold drove in the first run with a double to center field, then later scored on a
Will Cook groundout.
Freshman infielder
Braylen Blomquist recorded his first-ever collegiate home run, sending a two-run shot over the right-field line in the bottom of the fifth, driving in
Gus Gregory, who had reached on a single.
Patrick Fultz followed in the sixth, launching a two-run homer 426 feet over right-center.
Milwaukee tied the game in the eighth, capitalizing on a failed pickoff attempt before scoring on a single, a wild pitch, and a double.
WSU responded swiftly, rallying with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. After Gregory opened the frame with a single to center field, Peltier crushed a home run over the left-field wall to regain a 9-7 lead. Arnold and Cook each drove in two runs with doubles, followed by sacrifice flies from
Hunter Warren and Fultz to cap the scoring at 14-7.
Max Whitesell moved to 3-0 on the season, throwing the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit or run while striking out four batters.
