Raiders Defeat Cincinnati to Advance to Joe Nuxhall Championship Game

MASON, Ohio – The Wright State baseball team advances to the Joe Nuxhall Classic Championship game after defeating Cincinnati 10-3 on Tuesday evening. The championship game is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, following the conclusion of the consolation game between Miami (OH) and Cincinnati.
 
Cincinnati took an initial lead, scoring in the second and third innings, but the Raiders were quick to open scoring in the fourth as Nate Manley delivered a two-RBI single through the right side, driving in Patrick Fultz and Gug Gregory. Braylen Blomquist followed with an RBI single to left field, allowing Cam Gilkerson to score. The Bearcats tied it at three in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single.
 
Wright State added three runs across the fifth and sixth innings, starting with a Gregory RBI single. Manley opened the sixth with a full-count homer to left center. Following a Blomquist triple, Will Cook hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring him home.
 
Wright State's pitching staff held Cincinnati hitless over the final three innings, while the Raiders added four more runs to reach double digits. The first of those runs came when Boston Smith reached on an error by the right fielder, allowing Blomquist to score. Gregory, Fultz, and Blomquist followed with RBI singles, ending the day 10-3.
 
Now 17-13 on the season, Wright State saw Chet Lax earn the win, throwing 3.0 innings and striking out three batters. Warren Hartzell closed for the Raiders, tossing three scoreless, hitless innings with four strikeouts.
