Raiders Open #HLBASE Tournament Play with 8-2 Win Over Oakland

DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team opened play in the Horizon League Championship with an 8-2 win over Oakland on Thursday. The Raiders continue tournament play on Friday at 11 a.m., taking on the winner between the No. 2 seeded Northern Kentucky and No. 3 seed Milwaukee.

WSU starting pitcher Cam Allen opened the day with six strikeouts over the first three innings, while Gus Gregory opened scoring with a sacrifice fly to drive in Conlan Daniel in the third.

The Raiders put up four in the fourth, first scoring on a triple by Luke Arnold. Cam Gilkerson hit a single up the middle to drive in Arnold. Gilkerson scored on a passed ball before Patrick Fultz capped the inning with an RBI groundout to drive in Daniel.

The Golden Grizzlies added their only two runs in the fifth, scoring on a groundout then on a single. Boston Smith responded in the bottom of the frame, hitting his 22nd home run of the season, matching the league's single-season record alongside Kyle Fossum of Youngstown State. The record was originally set by Jeff Haase of Cleveland State in 2000.

WSU added two in the eighth, scoring on a double by Hunter Warren and on an infield fly by Peltier.

Allen moves to 7-3 on the season, throwing 5.0 innings and striking out eight batters.
