DAYTON – The Wright State men's basketball team will square off against former Horizon League foe Butler on November 28, the schools announced on Wednesday. The Raiders and Bulldogs will meet at Hinkle Fieldhouse in their first meeting since February 2012.
Tipoff time and TV designation will be announced at a later date.
"This game made a lot of sense for us," Wright State head coach
Clint Sargent said. "They're a former Horizon League opponent, which adds familiarity and history to the matchup. It's a game our fans will appreciate – and with Butler's close proximity, it gives them a great opportunity to travel and support us in person."
The November contest will be the 44th meeting all-time between Wright State and Butler. The pair squared off annually as conference foes for 18 seasons from 1994-95 through the 2011-12 campaign, with eight of those battles coming in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference/Horizon League Tournament.
The Raiders played a ranked Butler squad nine times from 2001-2009, with Wright State grabbing four wins in those games. The Raiders won the first ranked meeting in double overtime over then-No. 20 Butler in January 2001. Wright State tallied a pair of victories in 2006, first earning a regular season win over then-No. 18 Butler in February. They followed that win up by a 60-55 victory over then-No. 19 Butler in the Horizon League Championship game inside the Nutter Center that sent the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament. Wright State added a one-point home win over then-No. 18 Butler in December 2007 for three straight victories over the ranked Bulldogs.
Wright State returns six players from a season ago while adding seven newcomers (four transfers, three freshmen).
