Mitchell’s First Collegiate Goal Propels Raiders Over Titans

DAYTON- Freshman, Oneil Mitchell's first collegiate goal in the 34th minute propelled the Raiders to their first win of the season by way of a 1-0 shutout of Detroit Mercy.

Wright State (1-7-1, 1-2) will continue Horizon League play on the road next Saturday, October 4, at Cleveland State. First touch is slated for 7 p.m.

Mitchell made his second consecutive start and took full advantage of the opportunity, scoring the winning goal in the 34th minute. Brian Burkett sent a corner kick into the middle of the Detroit Mercy box that found the head of a rising Mitchell, who put the ball into the back of the net.

The Raiders would be presented with another golden opportunity in the final seconds of the first half, but sent the ball just wide of the post.

The Wright State defense bent but did not break in the second half. Detroit Mercy fired 7 shots in the final 45 minutes. WSU goalkeeper Alessandro Malterer stepped up in the 85th minute with a massive save to preserve the Raiders' first shutout of the season.

In the box score, the Raiders led the Titans in shots (12-11), shots on goal (6-2), and corner kick opportunities (5-4). Zakaria Amro, Roman Kedgley, Mitchell, and Brayden Tester played the full 90 minutes in the field for the Raiders.
