DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up the opening weekend of Horizon League play with a four-set victory over IU Indy to take both matches and open HL action 2-0 in the standings.
Wright State (8-5, 2-0 Horizon League) now gets set for three road matches in the upcoming week, beginning Tuesday night with a 6 p.m. match at Northern Kentucky before a weekend at Cleveland State. Tuesday's match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+. Fans can follow the action of all three matches via live stats.
On Saturday, the Raiders took the opening set 25-20 before IU Indy (6-8, 0-2 Horizon League) bounced back with a 25-17 second set victory. Wright State settled down and grabbed sets three and four by scores of 25-19 and 25-18, respectively, to wrap up the weekend. For the second straight night, neither side hit particularly well as a group, with the Raiders finishing with a .190 hitting percentage and IU Indy ending at .158 as a group. IU Indy had 24 attacking errors and added 18 service errors to its ledger, while the Raiders had 21 attacking errors and added nine service errors.
Katie Sowko finished with 10 kills and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season, while
Lauren Yacobucci dished out 31 of Wright State's 38 assists and added 13 digs for her seventh double-double while also notching six blocks.
Reilly Zegunis also turned in 10 kills, adding six blocks, while
Mya Ayro collected eight kills and
Taylor Bransfield had seven kills with five blocks.
Taygan Corstange finished with 11 digs as the third Raider with double digit digs as eight different Raiders had at least one dig.
Morgan Ostrowski had 13 kills to lead IU Indy, with 10 kills from both Maia Long and Jillian Tippmann, while Grace Purichia had 37 assists and Laura Roeder had 11 digs in the loss.
