LINCOLN, NE – For the second time in as many weeks, the Wright State volleyball team has tallied a reverse sweep, this time downing California out of the ACC in five sets on Saturday in Nebraska as part of the Ameritas Players Challenge.
 
The win gave Wright State (3-2) its third win over a power conference opponent in the last calendar year and its first since tallying back-to-back victories over Miami and Ohio State last September. The Raiders now won three of their last four meetings against power conference opponents since the start of last season.

Wright State now returns home to host the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational next weekend, with all matches played in the Nutter Center, marking the first time collegiate volleyball has been played in the Nutter Center since Wright State hosted the 1991 National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Raiders are set to face No. 9 Pitt on Friday, Sept. 12 before a matchup with Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 13 and a meeting against Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 14. Tickets for the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational are on sale now. 
 
On Saturday, the Raiders dropped the first two sets to Cal (2-1) by tight margins, 25-16 and 28-26, before rallying for back-to-back 25-18 wins in sets three and four to force the deciding set. Back-and-forth early, Cal cut the margin to one at 9-8 before the Raiders closed the victory with six straight points.
 
Wright State finished the afternoon hitting .247 as a group, including hitting marks of .333 in both of the final two sets, while Cal connected at just a .162 hitting mark. Defensively, the Raiders recorded 76 digs compared to Cal's 62, while Wright State had a 63-51 edge in assists.
 
Mya Ayro finished with a match-high 22 kills, just missing a double-double with nine digs, while Taylor Bransfield added 18 kills and a pair of blocks. Katie Sowko notched her third double-double of the young season with 13 kills and 12 digs, and Reilly Zegunis finished with eight kills of her own. Lauren Yacobucci tied her career-best with 57 assists, adding 14 digs for a double-double to go along with three blocks. Taygan Corstange collected a match-high 16 digs and Greta McKee was the fourth Raider with double-digit digs with 11.
