Wright State Men’s Basketball Adds Sam Johnson

DAYTON – Wright State head men's basketball coach Clint Sargent has announced the addition of transfer Sam Johnson to join the Raider program.
Johnson, a 6-7 guard from Worthington, Ohio, joins the Raiders after spending his two collegiate seasons at Cedarville University, while started 55 games and was a first team All-G-MAC performer in 2025-26.
"Sam is joining us with a strong foundation and an impressive skill set on and off the floor," Sargent said. "We love his hunger to improve and his excitement to contribute to our program. He brings valuable depth to our frontcourt and plays with a high level of physicality when he has the ball in his hands. His size and mobility are exactly what we look for in our frontcourt players."
Johnson started and played in 55 games for Cedarville over the last two seasons, bringing with him a career 13.7 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game average. He's a 55.4 percent overall shooter and has hit 30.0 percent of his three-point attempts. In 2025-26, he averaged 14.9 points and a team-leading 5.9 rebounds on the way to the first team All-G-MAC recognition, leading the G-MAC with his 62.0 field goal percentage. Johnson had 19 double figure scoring games last season, including six games with 20-plus points, finishing with a pair of double-doubles. In total, he tallied five or more rebounds 18 times a season ago. Johnson recorded 19 double figure scoring games in 2024-25, including opening his freshman campaign with a career-high 29 points against Truman State, and had 18 games with five-plus rebounds.
A four-year standout at Worthington Christian High School, Johnson was an All-Ohio first team selection as a senior to follow up a second-team all-state selection as a junior. Worthington Christian's all-time leader in rebounds (849) and blocks (201), he is also third on the all-time scoring list with 1,595 points. A two-time Central Buckeye League Player of the Year, the Division III Central District Player of the Year and the District 10 Player of the Year, Johnson was a three-time All-Central Buckeye League first team honoree and two-time All-District first team selection.
Johnson becomes the second transfer addition to the Wright State roster, joining Chadlyn Traylor, along with high school signees Noah Lewis and Tahj Martin.
