Travis Ferrick Cropped

Travis Ferrick

Travis Ferrick joined the Wright State baseball staff in August 2024 as an assistant coach (pitching coach) and recruiting coordinator.

“I could not be more excited to welcome Travis and his family to the Raidergang,” said Sogard at the time of his hire. “Travis is a relentless worker and will bring great energy to our program and players. He has done a great job recruiting, developing pitchers and young men, and I'm excited for him to make an immediate impact here at Wright State. He will be a great asset to our program as we strive to continue producing quality student-athletes that achieve at the highest level.”

In Ferrick’s first season at Wright State, the Raiders posted a 6.22 team ERA – nearly two runs lower than the year prior – while tossing five shutouts, which ranked 21st nationally at the conclusion of the 2025 season. His pitching staff led the Horizon League in ERA (6.22), fewest runs allowed (393), fewest earned runs allowed (359), and total strikeouts (516). Opponents hit just .265 against Raider pitching.

Wright State earned 16 total All-Horizon League honors in 2025, including pitchers Cam Allen (First Team), Max Whitesell (Second Team), and freshmen Malachi Paplanus and J.J. Thompson (All-Freshman Team). Sophomore Griffen Paige was also named to the NCAA Nashville Regional All-Tournament Team.

Ferrick came to WSU after one season at James Madison University where he served as the program’s pitching coach. At JMU, Ferrick helped the Dukes reach the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2011. Ferrick oversaw JMU’s pitchers threw the second most innings at JMU, the most since 2011, as well as the fifth most strikeouts and tie for sixth most saves. Under Ferrick, Joe Vogatsky was named to the Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, ranked second in program history with nine season saves, and was one of three Dukes to be picked in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.

Prior to JMU, Ferrick spent six seasons across town at the University of Dayton a pitching coach, with the final three seasons spent as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In Ferrick’s 2023 season, the Flyers pitching staff set the program record for strikeouts in a season (552) and ranked nationally with an average of 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings. That same season, Dayton had the top recruiting class in the Atlantic 10 Conference and a top 100 class nationally. With the Flyers, Ferrick oversaw the drafting of pitcher Mark Manfredi in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.

Ferrick got his collegiate coaching start at Army West Point, serving as a pitching coach for the 2017 season. While at West Point, the Black Knights set the then program record for strikeouts in a season (402), while their relievers recorded 11 saves, placing them fifth in program history. Their pitching success led to a 10-game turnaround and their first conference tournament appearance in three seasons.

Before joining the Black Knights, Ferrick was a teacher and coach at Osbourne Park High School during the 2015-16 school year. He was also the head coach of the 15U Stars Travel Baseball team from 2014-15.

Ferrick graduated from Boston College in 2015, earning a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education. Ferrick was a letterwinner on the baseball team, earning ACC All-Academic honors three times. Additionally, he was the awarded the team’s Sonny Nictakis Award, which is an award that recognizes a player wearing number eight who represents a person that has overcome adversity and whose character represents the team well.

Travis and his wife, Rachel, have one daughter, Kennedy, and reside in Kettering, Ohio.
