Wright State University Athletics

Ashley Barlow

Ashley Barlow joined the Wright State women's basketball staff as an assistant coach in June 2016.  In the summer of 2018, she took on added duties as the recruiting coordinator.

Barlow helped lead the Raiders to four consecutive post-seasons. She has worked with All-Conference players, Mackenzie Taylor, Michal Miller, and currently Angel Baker. Barlow has been an integral part of the 94 wins in just four seasons. The 2017 squad saw the first WNIT win in program history as well as a vote in a national poll.

“When I first got into coaching, Trina told me she was going to be a head coach one day, and when she became one, I would be on the call list! All these years later, she became a head coach and I was on the call list to be on her staff! Talk about wanting something and working to get it! This also happens when you surround yourself with good people! I’ve known Trina since I was 8 years old, so she is family. I’m honored to be a part of her staff and also honored she trusts me to be a positive influence on our young ladies every day. I enjoy working with our staff and I’m excited to continue to work towards being as successful as we possibly can.”

Barlow came to Wright State after three years as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville, where her responsibilities included working with the scoring guards, assisting with recruiting, scouting of opponents, and other day-to-day operations. She coached and mentored Co-FOY and 1st Teamer, Sara Dickey. Barlow came to Evansville after spending two seasons as an assistant at IUPUI.

In her two seasons at IUPUI, Barlow worked with the guards and was in charge of travel and film exchange, while assisting with recruiting, scouting and game planning.  There she coached and developed players who earned 1st, 2nd, FOY, All-Defensive and All-Newcomer honors, In 2012-13, Barlow helped guide the Jaguars to a 20-12 record and the program’ s first Postseason WNIT berth.

“Ashley has been with me since day 1. She is loyal, hard-working, wise beyond her years, and extremely talented. She is the example of the type of player you want your ladies to model and the type of coach that understands the importance of every task. She has stepped into the role of recruiting coordinator flawlessly and has proven to have great knowledge of the game as she has developed and mentored All-Conference players during her time here.”

Prior to her coaching career, Barlow completed a historical career at Notre Dame in 2010, where she emerged as one of the most versatile players in Fighting Irish history.  She is the only player in Notre Dame basketball history, male or female, to eclipse 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals in a career.  Upon completion of her career, Barlow found her name among the top 10 on 12 of Notre Dame’s career statistical records.

A native of Indianapolis, Barlow graduated from Notre Dame in 2010 with degrees in management-entrepreneurship and sociology.  She played professionally in Israel for Elitzur Rishon Le-Zion during the 2010-11 season, where she averaged 20.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

Prior to starring at Notre Dame, Barlow played at Pike High School where she was a WBCA High School All-American and a two-time all-state selection. She holds 12 school records at Pike, including marks for points in game (42), season (653) and career (1,726), as well as career scoring average. She was a 2006 Indiana All-Star and wore the #3 jersey, just as Coach Merriweather did nine years before.
