The Wright State baseball team pounded out 30 hits and scored a run in every inning of game two of a doubleheader, sweeping the twinbill by scores of 4-1 and 26-5. Erich Schanz threw four innings in a game one win and Jordan Wolfe came out of the bullpen to pick up the victory in game two.
In game one, Oeder singled up the middle to jump started the Raiders offense. After stealing second, he advanced to third on a throwing error by the Air Force catcher and scored on a Jeremy Hamilton groundout.
The only Falcon run of game one came on an RBI ground out off the bat of Ben Ausbun in the second inning, tying the contest at 1-1.
Oeder struck again to start the third inning, tripling into the right field corner. Dan Biedenharn was hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners, and Hamilton delivered. The junior sent the first pitch he saw into right field to score Oeder. The Air Force right fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Biedenharn to score from first. Hamilton was credited with one RBI, pushing the Raiders lead to 3-1.
WSU starter Erich Schanz allowed only five base runners in his first start of the season. The senior, now 1-2 on the season, stuck out four batters and issued no walks in 4 1/3 innings of work to pick up the victory.
The Raiders added another run on an Aaron Field sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, providing the final margin of 4-1.
Nate Stevens and Jason Bennion combined to throw the final 2 2/3 innings scoreless, with Bennion collecting his second save of the season. Bennion struck out one batter in two innings of work.
In game one, Oeder was three-for-four with two runs scored and a stolen base. Six other Raiders collected hits, with Hamilton and Biedenharn the only other Raiders to reach base multiple times. Hamilton collected two RBI's in the contest and Field drove in the first RBI of his college career.
In the second game, the Raiders jumped on the board with three runs in the first inning. The Raiders used an RBI single from Brian Shoup and a two-RBI double off the bat of Justin Parker to take the early 3-0 lead.
The Falcons added an unearned run in their half of the second inning off of WSU starter Dan Barker, but the Raiders would respond in their next at-bat.
In the second inning, the Green and Gold blistered Air Force starter Juan Perez with four more runs. John Kopilchack led the inning off with a bunt single and scored from first on a failed pickoff attempt by Perez. Oeder followed that with a hit-by-pitch and stole second base to put himself in scoring position. Shoup then collected his second and third RBI's with a towering home run over the 24-foot fence in right field. Parker followed that with a 401-foot shot over the left-center field fence and the Raiders lead was 7-1.
The Raiders would score 11 runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the ninth to cap the scoring. The Raiders pounded out 21 hits in the game, eight for extra bases, and walked 11 times in the second game.
Barker threw only three innings in the contest and allowed four runs, three earned. The junior walked three and struck out three batters before being relieved by freshman Jordan Wolfe.
Wolfe would throw a scoreless inning, picking up his first collegian win, allowing no runs and no hits. Greg Robinson and Chris Nighland would throw scoreless innings, both allowing no hits. John Lambert threw the seventh inning, allowing one run, while striking out one.
Eleven players collected hits in the contest and ten players drove in RBI's in the night cap. Justin Parker led the offense with a four-for-six performance, including a home run, driving in six RBI's and scoring four runs.
The 26 runs were the most scored by a WSU squad since May, 9 1980 against Capital College. That mark tied the school record for runs in game, with the 1980 squad and the 1977 squad which scored 26 runs against Youngstown State in a postseason game.
Wright State, now 5-4 overall, will wrap up the four-game series against Air Force tomorrow at 2:00 Dayton time.
