The Wright State baseball team won their opening game in the 2007 Horizon League Tournament, 17-13 over Milwaukee at Les Miller Field. Jeremy Hamilton drove in six RBI's, smacking two homers, and Justin Parker went deep in the contest.
Kyle Kearcher was the Wright State starter in game one and surrendered two runs in the first inning of work. The Panthers used a leadoff double from Kyle Silver and a two-run homer off the bat of Rob Brockel.
The Raiders answered in the first inning off of UWM starter Brandon Duffy, scoring... Jeremy Hamilton then sent a bouncer through the infield to plate Oeder for his 54th RBI of the season. Parker plated an RBI with an infield single and Brian Shoup drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Casey McGrew plated a run with a double to the left-center field gap, Sam Mote scored McGrew from third with an RBI ground out and John Kopilchack singled to plate the final run of the frame. After a UWM error allowed a run to score, Hamilton then launched his seventh home run of the season 495 feet over the center field fence to push WSU out to a 10-2 lead.
WSU sent 13 batters to the plate in the first frame, collecting seven hits and posting their second ten-run inning of the season.
The Panthers answered with a run of their own in the second inning, but Wright State posted four runs in the third inning. The third inning was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Hamilton and Parker to push WSU to a 14-3 lead.
UWM smacked a two run home run in the fourth inning, but WSU answered with a run of their own to hold their double-digit lead at 15-5.
Mote drove in his second RBI of the game in the fifth inning with a single. After UWM posted two runs in the sixth, Ogrinc was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push across the Raiders 17th run of the game.
Kearcher was replaced in the seventh inning by Greg Robinson, leaving with a 17-7 advantage. The senior threw six innings and allowed seven runs on 13 hits, while striking out two batters.
Robinson threw the two innings for the Green and Gold, allowing six runs on eight hits. Robinson struck out three batters in the outing and handed the ball to Jason Bennion with a runner on first and no one out in the ninth.
Bennion rolled a double play and coaxed a ground out to end the contest and send WSU into the semifinal round.
In the contest, eight Raiders collected hits and nine players drove in at least one RBI. Hamilton was three-for-three in the contest and reached base six times, while driving in six RBI's. Oeder posted four hits, scored three runs and drove in one RBI, while Parker and Mote each recorded two RBI's.
The Green and Gold improve to 35-20 overall this season and will face the winner of tonight's finale game between #1-seeded UIC and #4-seeded Cleveland State. The Raiders will take to the field and play for a berth in their second consecutive Championship game at 8:00 Dayton time.
