The Wright State baseball team dropped the final game of the series at Miami (FL), falling 13-5 at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes used six pitchers to hold the Raiders to seven hits in the contest, while collecting 17 hits in the finale.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Blake Tekotte home run to center field.
UM added four runs on Raider starting pitcher Kyle Kearcher in the second inning on a pair of two-RBI hits from Ryan Jackson and Yonder Alonzo. In the inning, the Canes scored four runs, collected three hits and used two walks to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Canes, now 30-19 overall, added three more runs in the third inning to push their lead to 8-0.
Kearcher threw only three innings, his shortest outing of the season, and allowed eight runs on nine hits. The senior struck out two batters and falls to 7-4 overall in 2007.
In the fourth inning, the Raiders got the inning started as Dan Biedenharn reached base on a throwing error by the shortstop. Casey McGrew then grounded out to the first baseman to collect his 17th RBI of the season and push the first run across for WSU.
With the double, Parker tied the single-season school record with his 21st two-bagger of the season. Parker is now tied with Kris Jarosz (1994) and Mark Frankenbeurg (1989).
The Raiders posted four runs on UM reliever Kyle Bellamy, who recorded two outs in the inning before being replaced by Teddy Kaufman. Biedenharn and Hamilton each walked to start the inning and pinch hitter J.C. Ramatowski's RBI single started the scoring the Green and Gold. After a walk to pinch hitter Kris Steffen loaded the bases, Brian Shoup drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Nick Allsop drove in a run with an RBI single and Aaron Fields plated the final run of the inning with an RBI ground out.
Jason Bennion threw the next two and one-third innings for the Raiders and allowed four runs on five hits and struck out two batters. Nate Stevens recorded two outs in the sixth and allowed one run in the seventh inning in his appearance on the mound.
Scott Ruthven came on to throw the final inning for the Green and Gold and struck out one batter.
In the contest, seven different Raiders collected a hit and five players drove in an RBI in the contest. Biedenharn walked twice and scored a pair of runs, while Ramatowski was the only Raider to score a run and drive in an RBI in the contest.
Wright State falls to 27-18 overall on the season and will face off with Bowling Green on Tuesday, May 7 on the BGSU campus. The game between the Raiders and the Falcons is scheduled for a 3:00 start.
