Wright State turned the tables on an early 10-point deficit to lead by 10 late in the first half, but it was all Cincinnati from there as the Bearcats outscored the Raiders 42-17 the final 23 minutes in posting a 56-41 decision in women's basketball action at the Nutter Center Tuesday night.
Cincinnati scored the first 10 points of the contest, holding WSU scoreless over the initial 6:48, but a Tatianna Hall jumper spurred a 17-2 run, seven coming from Hall and six by LaShawna Thomas three with 3:57 remaining in the half.
But just when it looked like WSU had all the momentum, back came the Bearcats with a 12-2 run of their own to tie the game at 26 heading into the halftime break, including a last-second three from Kahla Roudebush from the right side.
Wright State hit for 42 percent in the first half compared to 38 percent for Cincinnati, but the Bearcats were also a perfect six-for-six from the foul line while the Raiders did not attempt a free throw.
Cincinnati took the lead for good by scoring the first 11 points of the second half and after the Raiders closed to within four at 41-37 on a Kanisha Ward layup with 10:09 left, broke the game open with a 13-2 run over a seven-minute span.
The Bearcats shot 40 percent overall while Wright State was at 34 percent after hitting just five of 21 shots the final 20 minutes. Cincinnati also led in rebounds (34-29) and points in the paint (22-16) along with hitting 15 of 16 from the foul line compared to just four of 10 for the Raiders.
Hall paced WSU with 11 off the bench while Ward added seven as the Raider reserves accounted for 28 points on the night. Shey Peddy chipped in six points and six assists.
