An 18-0 first-half run proved to be too much for Wright State to overcome as the Green Bay Phoenix remained undefeated in Horizon League play with a 70-39 win in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center.
LaShawna Thomas gave the Raiders a brief 3-2 lead with a three-pointer at the 19:15 mark, but the Phoenix followed with the 18 consecutive points over a 4:13 span, nine coming from Rachel Porath and seven by Celeste Hoewisch.
Green Bay gradually built on the margin from there, leading 40-17 at the break as the Phoenix shot 56 percent from the field, including a perfect three-for-three from the field, while Wright State hit for 37 percent.
For the game, Green Bay shot 52 percent, including six of 10 from three-point range, compared to 39 percent overall for Wright State, who was four of 15 from behind the arc.
Thomas led the Raiders with 13, 11 coming in the first half, and had six rebounds while Shey Peddy added 10, all in the second half, but no other WSU player managed more than five.
Porath paced Green Bay (13-3, 5-0 Horizon) with 17 points, 14 in the opening 20 minutes, with Heather Golden adding 15 off the bench, 11 coming in the second half, and Hoewisch 11, all in the first half.
Wright State (7-10, 3-3 Horizon) starts a three-game homestand next weekend with a pair of games, starting with Youngstown State on Thursday, January 22, at 5:30. That contest will precede the WSU men's team taking on Loyola at 8:00.
