Baseball Drops First Horizon League Tournament Game 4-0 to UIC

The Wright State baseball team couldn't muster any offense on Saturday afternoon against UIC, falling 4-0 to the top-seeded Flames in the Horizon League Tournament. The Raiders managed only seven hits in the game, but struck out eight times as UIC forced a decisive Championship Game to take place on Sunday at Pipe Yard Stadium in Lorain, Ohio.
The Raiders would threaten in the third inning, putting runners on first and third with two outs, but Mike Kool would get a fly ball out to end the frame and hold the game scoreless.
UIC struck in the bottom of the third inning with a run against WSU starting pitcher Rylan Ostrosky, as three singles plated the go ahead run for the Flames. That would be the last inning for Ostrosky, as he fanned five in three innings of work and allowed one run on five hits.
Michael Meintel would come on in relief and toss the final five innings, allowing three runs, only two earned, with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Raiders put a runner on second in three of the final five innings, but couldn't push a run across the plate as Kool would toss a complete game shutout of the Raiders.
McGrew collected a pair of hits in the game, including his 21st double of the season, and Quentin Cate doubled as well in the contest for his only hit. R.J. Gundolff would extend his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the third inning.
It will be one game for the Horizon League Championship at Pipe Yard Stadium, with the last two league summits reaching the decisive game on Sunday.
The Green and Gold are now 32-28 on the season and will take on the Flames (29-22) starting at 11 am on Sunday, May 24.
