Raiders Fall in Final Second at Green Bay 68-66

Box Score

A Vaughn Duggins three tied the game with 22.4 seconds left, but two foul shots from Randy Berry at the 0.9-second mark gave the Green Bay Phoenix a 68-66 Horizon League victory over the Raiders Thursday night at the Resch Center.

Wright State led throughout the first half, scoring the first four points of the contest and later went up 31-22 on a Todd Brown jumper with 3:36 remaining in the period. The margin was seven until a Rahmon Fletcher three just ahead of the buzzer trimmed the Green Bay deficit to 35-31 at the break.

WSU shot 47 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes while the Phoenix was at 48 percent, but Wright State had nine more attempts thanks to a 19-9 rebounding advantage, including 9-2 on the offensive end, which also resulted in a 7-3 differential in second-chance points.

Green Bay scored the first 13 points of the second half to go up 44-35 with 14:14 to play, only to see the Raiders gradually chip away and tie it at 56 on two Cory Cooperwood free throws at the 5:41 mark.

The Phoenix went back in front on a Troy Cotton jumper and two Berry foul shots, but Wright State closed to within one on three different occasions before finally tying it at 66 on the Duggins three from the top of the circle with 22.4 seconds left.

After a missed jumper, Berry was fouled on the rebound and made both foul shots at the 0.9-second mark to give Green Bay the victory as a desperation play by the Raiders was broken up at midcourt.

Green Bay shot 51 percent for the game, including four of eight from three-point range, and hit 22 of 26 free throws, 14 of 16 in the second half, compared to 45 percent shooting, six of 18 from behind the arc, and 12 of 15 at the line for WSU.

Duggins led all scorers with 20 for Wright State, 11 coming in the second half, while Cooperwood had 12 and Brown 11.

Fletcher paced the Phoenix (12-6, 5-2 Horizon) with 18 points while Berry posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, including a perfect nine for nine at the line.

Wright State (11-7, 4-3 Horizon) wraps up the Wisconsin trip Saturday in Milwaukee for an 8:00 Eastern matchup with the Panthers.
