Box Score Wright State led by as much as 12 with 11 minutes to go in the second half, only to see Central Michigan tie it before the Raiders pulled out a 53-49 win over the Chippewas Tuesday night at Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Seven straight WSU points broke an early 9-9 tie and the Raiders maintained the advantage for the rest of the first half, leading 23-21 at the break. Wright State shot 42 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to 32 percent for Central Michigan.
The Raiders gradually extended the lead in the early going of the second half and were up as much as 44-32 on a Troy Tabler three with 11:13 remaining. CMU, however, followed with a 13-1 run to tie it at 45 at the 7:27 mark.
A Cooper Land layup, though, put the Raiders back in front to stay and they held on from there, clinching the win on two Vaughn Duggins foul shots with four seconds left.
WSU hit 11 of 19 shots in the second half to finish at 50 percent overall while Central Michigan (2-7) shot 36 percent to end up at 34 percent. The Raiders dominated the boards by a 37-19 count and led 30-10 in points in the paint.
Duggins led the Raiders with 13 points while N'Gai Evans had nine.
Wright State (6-5) takes on another Mid-American Conference team on Saturday, December 18, as the Raiders host Miami at 7:00.
