Box Score Behind a dominant first half performance that saw the Raiders hit nine three-pointers and lead 39-18 at the break, the Wright State men's basketball team advanced to Tuesday night's Horizon League Championship game with a 69-50 win over the Detroit Titans in semifinal action at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday night.
It was raining threes for the Raiders early as their first five baskets and eight of their first nine came from behind the arc, with Ronnie Thomas connecting for four and Troy Tabler three, in building a 26-13 lead with 6:43 remaining in the first half. WSU added 10 more points in a row to cap a 13-0 run, the final four by Cory Cooperwood, to goed up 36-13 at the 3:03 mark.
WSU scorched the nets for 56 percent the opening 20 minutes, including nine of 14 from three, while holding the Titans to 38 percent shooting and forcing 13 turnovers, resulting a 16-2 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Raider lead grew to as much as 25 on three different occasions in the second half, with Detroit getting no closer than 14.
Wright State finished the game at 49 percent from the field, including 12 of 23 from three-point range, while the Titans shot 39 percent and were just two of 15 from behind the arc.
Thomas scored a career-high 18 to lead the way for the Raiders, eclipsing his previous best of 14 set at Mississippi State on December 16. Tabler hit six of seven shots in scoring 16 off the bench while Vaughn Duggins had 12 and Todd Brown 10.
Eli Holman paced Detroit (20-14) with 12 points.
Wright State (20-11) advances to the final for the first time since winning the title in 2007. The Raiders will face #1 seed Butler Tuesday at 9:00 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 9:00 and the game will be televised live on ESPN.
