The men's basketball team open the home portion of its schedule with a win Sunday afternoon as the Raiders defeated Kenyon 80-56 at WSU's Nutter Center.

The Lords scored the first five points of the contest before WSU answered with a 10-0 run, half of those coming from Armond Battle.  The margin was still five until an 11-1 burst over a three-minute span, including five by John Balwigaire, put Wright State up 25-10 with 7:26 remaining in the first half.  Another 10-0 run extended the lead to 19 before the Raiders went into the half up 42-24.

Both teams shot the ball well in the first half as WSU was at 41 percent compared to 40 percent for Kenyon, but the Raiders also made 12 of 16 foul shots while the Lords were just three of 10 from the stripe.

Wright State eventually pushed the lead to as much as 71-41 with 6:53 remaining before coasting to the victory.

The Raiders shot 44 percent for the game, 46 percent in the second half, and were 23 of 29 at the free throw line, 11 of 13 the final 20 minutes.  Kenyon, meanwhile, shot 41 percent on the night, including 11 of 22 from three-point range, but was just nine of 19 at the line.

Wright State led 32-12 in points in the paint and 29-3 in points off of turnovers as the Raiders forced 22 turnovers while committing only 11.

Tavares Sledge paced WSU with 16 points off the bench, 12 in the second half, and had eight rebounds while Balwigaire had 14 and Kendall Griffin and Battle 11 each.  Overall, the Raider reserves outscored the Kenyon bench 50-37.

Wright State (1-1) resumes play in the Global Sports Shootout on Wednesday, November 16, as the Raiders host Jackson State in a 7:00 contest.
