Box Score The Wright State men's basketball team wrapped up play in the Global Sports Shootout Wednesday night, falling at North Florida 69-52.
The Raiders jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage before the Ospreys answered with 10 straight to take the lead for the first time. An 18-6 run, six coming from both Julius Mays and AJ Pacher, put WSU back in front 28-22 before NFU scored the final six points of the period to tie at 28 heading into halftime.
Both teams shot the ball well in the opening 20 minutes as North Florida made 11 of 20 for 55 percent while Wright State was 12 of 26 for 46 percent, including four of 10 from three-point range.
North Florida went in front to stay by scoring the first seven points of the second half, but WSU only trailed 47-44 following a Mays layup with 9:05 remaining. The Ospreys, however, followed with nine unanswered and a 16-4 run overall to go up 63-48 with 3:34 to play.
While North Florida hit 17 of 29 shots in the second half for 59 percent, the Raiders struggled, making just eight of 27 attempts for 30 percent. Overall, the Ospreys shot 57 percent while WSU was at 38 percent.
UNF also led 36-20 in points in the paint and 26-9 in points off of turnovers despite only a 14-12 differential in turnovers.
Mays paced the Raiders for the second straight game as he had 15 points with four assists. Pacher added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench, but no other WSU player had more than eight.
Jerron Granberry led North Florida (2-4) with 19 points while Travis Wallace had 11 off the bench.
Wright State (2-3) begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, November 27, as the Raiders host Charlotte at 7:00. Starting with that contest, WSU will be at home for seven of its next nine.
