Box Score Behind a 30-17 advantage in points off of turnovers, Wright State won its third straight Thursday night, defeating Loyola 64-48 in Horizon League action at Gentile Arena.
The WSU lead was just one at 12-11 before the Raiders closed out the first half with a 16-7 run over the final 8:13, five of those coming from Julius Mays, to go up 28-18 at the break.
Wright State shot 38 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to 36 percent for the Ramblers, but the Raiders had 29 attempts compared to only 11 for Loyola as WSU forced 15 turnovers while committing just three.
Four Mays foul shots and a three by Vance Hall pushed the lead to 17 to start the second half and Wright State led by as much as 49-22 following a John Balwigaire three with 11:30 to play. The Ramblers would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.
The win was Wright State's 700th in the program's 42-year history (700-477).
WSU shot 45 percent for the contest, including 10 of 25 from three-point range, while Loyola shot 39 percent and was four of 13 from behind the arc. The Ramblers held a 30-21 rebounding edge, but committed 21 turnovers compared to nine for the Raiders, resulting in a 30-17 advantage in points off of turnovers.
Mays led all scorers with 23 points for Wright State, including 10 of 11 from the foul line. Hall had nine off the bench while Reggie Arceneaux chipped in eight.
Walt Gibbler paced Loyola (5-8, 0-3 Horizon) with 12 points while Christian Thomas had 11.
Wright State (7-8, 2-1 Horizon) wraps up its stay in the Windy City on Saturday, December 31, at UIC starting at 2:00 Eastern.
