Raiders Fall to Detroit in Regular-Season Finale

Wright State led by five at the break, but Detroit opened the second half with a 17-7 run and outscored the Raiders 50-35 overall for a 77-67 Horizon League win in the regular-season finale for both teams Friday night at Wright State's Nutter Center.

Detroit went up 27-24 on a Nick Minnerath layup with 3:39 to go in the first half, only to see WSU close the period by scoring the final eight points, half coming from N'Gai Evans, to go up 32-27 at the break.

The Raiders shot 45 percent in the opening 20 minutes compared to 44 percent for the Titans and held a 16-8 edge in points in the paint and 8-2 in points off of turnovers.

Detroit scored 13 of the first 17 points of the second half to take the lead for good and went up 54-47 on a Chase Simon free throw with 7:55 remaining.

WSU rallied to within two at 64-62 on an Evans three with 2:31 left, but the Titans put the game out of reach by scoring the next seven points on a three and layup from Simon and two Eli Holman foul shots.

Detroit scorched the nets for 68 percent in the second half, hitting 17 of 25 shots to finish at 56 percent overall while the Raiders ended up at 44 percent for the game. The Titans controlled the boards by a 40-21 count and led 16-9 in second-chance points.

Vaughn Duggins led all scorers with 27 for WSU while Evans had 12 and Cooper Land 11.

Chris Blake paced Detroit (16-15, 10-8 Horizon) with 21 points while Holman posted a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Minnerath also had a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards.and Simon had 15.

Wright State (18-13, 10-8 Horizon) will host a Horizon League First Round contest on Tuesday, March 1, at 7:00 as the #6-seeded Raiders will take on either Green Bay or Loyola.
