Box Score In a game that saw 14 lead changes, seven ties and neither team holding more than a four-point lead until the end, the Wright State men's basketball team came out on the short end of a 53-48 decision to Green Bay Friday night at WSU's Nutter Center.
The Raiders trailed 9-5 early before a 9-1 run, five of those coming from Reggie Arceneaux, gave WSU a four-point lead at 14-10. The lead was still four until the Phoenix tallied five straight to go back in front 21-20.
Neither team then had more than a one-point edge the rest of the first half, with Johann Mpondo putting Wright State up at the break 24-23 with a jumper at the 1:51 mark.
A Vance Hall three early in the second half made it 29-25 and the sophomore guard gave WSU a 44-43 advantage with two free throws at the 5:02 mark.
Green Bay, however, went in front to stay on layups by Keifer Sykes and Alec Brown and, despite an Arceneaux layup in the final minute to cut the margin to 49-48, the Phoenix held on as Kam Cerroni made four foul shots in the final 10.5 seconds.
The Raiders outshot Green Bay for the game 42 percent to 39 percent, but the Phoenix attempted nine more shots thanks in part to a 14-5 edge in offensive rebounds, which also resulted in a 10-4 differential in second-chance points.
Arceneaux and Mpondo both had 12 to lead WSU, with Hall adding eight.
Brown posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace Green Bay (10-13, 6-7 Horizon) while Sykes chipped in 13 points.
Wright State (11-15, 6-8 Horizon) hosts Milwaukee Sunday at 3:00. It will Academic Recognition Day with student-athletes from all of WSU's 16 sports being recognized for performance in the classroom.
