Women Fall 64-59 at #9 Green Bay

The Wright State women's basketball team hung close throughout and had four players score in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders dropped a 64-59 decision at #9 Green Bay Saturday afternoon.
WSU led twice in the early going and after tied it 10 on a Kim Demmings fast-break basket, regained the advantage at 15-14 on a Shaunda Sandifer jumper with 9:37 remaining in the first half. The Phoenix used a 9-0 run to go up 34-23, only to see the Raiders score the final six points of the period, four by Demmings, to only trail 34-29 at the break.
Wright State shot 44 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, but was just one of six from three-point range, while Green Bay shot 39 percent and was five of 18 from behind the arc.
A banked-in three by KC Elkins made the margin 47-43 with 12:12 to play before the Phoenix went on a 12-4 run over the next seven minutes to take its biggest lead of the game at 59-47. The difference was still 12 before WSU closed the game with a 9-2 burst over the final 2:21.
The Raiders shot 42 percent for the game compared to 34 percent for the Phoenix and led 30-20 in points in the paint, but Green Bay forced 24 turnovers while committing 13, resulting in a 24-12 differential in points off of turnovers.
WSU had four score in double figures, paced by Fox's double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Demmings and Kayla Lamotte each had 11 while Elkins had 10 off the bench.
Wojta had a career-high 30 points to lead the way for Green Bay (21-1, 11-1 Horizon) along with 20 rebounds, eight steals, five assists and four blocks. Lukan added 12.
Wright State (16-9, 9-4 Horizon) opens a three-game homestand on Thursday, February 16, as the Raiders take on Detroit for a 7:00 contest.
