Behind 21 points from AJ Pacher and 17 by TJ Yoho, the Wright State men's basketball team rolled to an 82-49 season-opening victory over Mount St. Joseph Sunday at WSU's Nutter Center.
The Raiders led throughout, scoring the first six points of the contest and building a 14-3 advantage just 4:27 into the game following a Pacher layup. The Lions, though, only trailed by seven at 26-19 before WSU closed the half with a 17-5 run, five of those coming from Miles Dixon , to go up 43-24 at the break.
Wright State hit 17 of 27 shots in the opening 20 minutes for 63 percent, including four of eight from three-point range, while Mount St. Joseph shot 41 percent and was five of 10 from behind the arc.
The margin would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way as the final score was the biggest lead that the Raiders would enjoy in the game.
WSU continued its impressive shooting in the second half, making 13 of 26 shots to finish at 57 percent overall while the Lions shot 38 percent for the game. Wright State led 44-12 in points in the paint, 32-7 in points off of turnovers and 14-0 in fast-break points.
Pacher hit all nine of his shot attempts, including a three-pointer, to finish with a game-high 21 points, all in the first half. Three other Raiders reached double figures as Yoho had 17 and Jerran Young and Steven Davis 10 each off the bench. Young posted a double-double as he collected 10 rebounds to go with his 10 points.
David Mann paced Mount St. Joseph with 13 points.
Wright State (1-0) takes on a pair of Big East teams on the road this week, facing Georgetown on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:00 and DePaul in the first game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 Eastern.
