Box Score An 11-0 second-half run proved to be too much for the Wright State men's basketball team to overcome as Morehead State held on for a 74-69 decision Monday night at the Ellis T. Johnson Arena.
Neither team had more than a four-point lead in the first half until WSU scored six straight points to go up 26-19 at the 4:45 mark. The margin grew to 30-21 on a Kendall Griffin jumper with 3:03 remaining before the Eagles tallied the final eight points of the period to trim the lead to one at the half.
The game was tied at 39 following a Miles Dixon layup at the 16:11 mark of the second half, but Morehead State would answer with the decisive 11-0 run over the next three minutes.
WSU cut the deficit to 69-67 on an AJ Pacher putback with 2:07 left and only trailed by three with the ball in the final minute, but a turnover resulted in a Billy Reader dunk and Angelo Warner hit two foul shots with 7.7 seconds remaining to close out the game.
The Raiders outshot the Eagles for the game 48-46 percent and hit eight of 21 three-pointers compared to just one of 16 for Morehead State, but MSU made 23 of 32 free throws while Wright State was only seven of 15. The Eagles led 44-30 in points in the paint, 17-12 in points off of turnovers and 12-5 in fast-break points.
JT Yoho led the way for WSU with 18 points while Dixon had 16, but no other Raider managed more than eight.
Warner paced Morehead State (7-3) with 19 points while Reader had 14, Chad Posthumus 13 and Brent Arrington 10.
Wright State (5-4) hits the road again on Thursday, December 5, for a 7:00 game at North Carolina A&T.
