After a seven-hour flight and seven-hour layover in Brussels, Belgium, the Athetes In Action men's basketball team landed in the Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire) African port of Abidjan where it will play games and interact with the culture.
Wright State guard Kendall Griffin is joined on the team by Montigo Alford (Southern Idaho), Pierra Henry (Charlotte), Jack Isenbarger (Elon), Nick Kellogg (Ohio), Sherron Walker (Iowa State), Dwayne Evans (Saint Louis), Justin Gant (Indiana State), Ty Armstrong (East Carolina) and Jordan Morgan (Michigan). Athletes In Action Basketball Specialist Morris Michalski is coaching the team and being assisted by Eric Farrell (Dayton) and Mike Lepore (Saint Louis) with CBS lead college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg serving as a Life Coach.
"We are really happy that Kendall is participating on this tour to Africa," said WSU head coach Billy Donlon. "The personal growth and world experience that Kendall will gain cannot be quantified. I can think of no better ambassador to represent Wright State University. Kendall is a special young man."
The group will play six games against top-level competition in Africa. Athletes in Action will also hold many basketball camps and clinics while also distributing goods to the nation. Among the games scheduled is one against Cote d'Ivoire, which finished fourth at the African qualifying championships for the 2012 Olympics.
Griffin accompanied the WSU team to Italy two years ago.
