
Women Dominate First Half in 74-54 Win Over UIC

The Wright State women's basketball team held UIC to 19 percent shooting in the first half in racing out to a 44-15 lead en route to a 74-54 decision over the Flames Wednesday night at WSU's Nutter Center.
Two Breanna Stucke three-pointers gave the Raiders a quick 6-0 advantage and after UIC had cut the deficit to two, eight straight points, including back-to-back threes by Abby Jump, made it 18-8 with 11:03 remaining in the first half.
Wright State maintained a double-digit margin for most of the rest of the period before breaking the game open with a 17-2 run to close out the stanza, eight coming from Tay'ler Mingo to go up 44-15 at the half.
WSU shot 47 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including six of 15 from behind the arc, while UIC made just five of 27 attempts for 19 percent.
The Raiders extended the lead to as much as 52-18 on two Mingo foul shots with 16:40 to play while the Flames would get no closer than the final margin of 20.
Wright State shot 45 percent for the contest overall, was seven of 18 from three and hit 17 of 24 foul shots while UIC shot 36 percent, was three of 11 from behind the arc and made nine of 16 at the line. WSU also led 30-16 in points in the paint and 18-12 in points off of turnovers.
Mingo led all scorers with 27 points and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Jump had 14 points off the bench. Richelle van der Keijl chipped in nine points while Stucke had eight points and 10 boards and Tayler Stanton eight points and six rebounds.
Ruvanna Campbell paced UIC (16-12, 6-9 Horizon) with a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds while Kendyl Nunn had 15 off the bench and Melita Emanuel-Carr 13.
Wright State (22-7, 11-4 Horizon), which clinched the #2 seed for next week's Horizon League Tournament with the victory, wraps up the regular season on Saturday, March 7, as the Raiders host Milwaukee at 2:00. WSU's five seniors--Courtney Boyd, Jump, Mingo, Stanton and Stucke--will be honored before the game.
