For the second straight Saturday, the Wright State men's soccer team posted a shutout in the state of Michigan as goals by Eric Lynch and Peguy Ngatcha lifted the Raiders to a 2-0 Horizon League win at Detroit Mercy.
The match was scoreless for most of the first half until Lynch put the Raiders in front to stay at the 39:08 mark. The senior forward connected on his fifth goal of the season off a free kick that went into the right side of the goal.
Ngatcha then gave WSU an insurance goal at the 49:36 mark of the second half as he tallied his league-leading 10th goal of the year on a header to the left side of the goal. Sophomore midfielder Jackson Dietrich was credited with his seventh assist of the season.
"Today's result truly comes from the complete team performance," said Raider head coach Bryan Davis. "Detroit is never an easy place to play so once we settled down into our game plan, the group really had success. Every single player is getting settled as they grow into their role with this group. Every day, each player is getting closer to mastering their role and, by the day, we are becoming stronger as a group."
"There still is a lot of soccer to play, however, and still a ton to get better and not much time to enjoy this," added Davis. "We will rest up tomorrow and get back to work Monday with Cleveland State coming to town next week."
Senior goalkeeper Will Lukowski posted his second shutout of the year and the sixth overall by Wright State, recording two saves in the process.
The Raiders finished with a 21-11 shot advantage, including 10-2 in shots on goal, and attempted seven corner kicks compared to just three for the Titans.
Wright State (8-4-2, 4-1-1 Horizon) returns home to host Cleveland State on Saturday, October 22, at 7:00.
