Five New Things About Raider Basketball
11/14/2016 5:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
It's a new era for Raider basketball and there are several new things to watch out for this season inside the Nutter Center. Here's a look at changes you'll see beginning Tuesday, when the Raiders will take on Miami (OH). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
New staff and style of play
This is far from news at this point, as Coach Scott Nagy and his staff have been in place for almost six months now. Nagy comes to Wright State with over 400 career wins and multiple NCAA appearances over the last five years. He also brings with him a very different style of play than what Raider fans have seen over the last decade or so. Nagy's South Dakota State teams have regularly averaged in the mid-70s the last five years, as opposed to the mid-60s for Raider teams over that same time span.
New court design
The basketball court received a make-over in September while in for routine maintenance. The new court design features a green semi-transparent border, a significantly larger Raider logo at mid-court, “Raiders” on the baseline in gold lettering with black and white trim and the state of Ohio in each corner with a small wolf paw denoting our Dayton location. The arena's name is also now prominently displayed on the sideline, visible to television cameras.
New jerseys
The Raiders will sport home white, away green, and a black jersey that will be worn on occasion throughout the season. The most visible changes are the large block lettering appearing on the white and green jerseys and the cursive “Raiders” on the black jerseys.
Raider Pub
The Pub, located at the open end of the arena floor, is a unique space where Raider fans can gather before the game and at halftime to experience Wright State Basketball in an entirely new way. It will feature different specialty food items, discounted drinks, various craft beers, TVs and a bit of Raider history displayed on the back wall.
The Raider Pub will open one hour prior to tip-off and remain open through halftime. Fans must present their Raider Pub card or their courtside or Premium ticket must be shown at the entry to the Pub.
Thanksgiving Tournament
For the first time Wright State will host a multi-team event over the long Thanksgiving weekend, November 25-27. The event will bring in three teams that all had success last season: CSU Bakersfield, North Dakota and North Florida. Bakersfield will return two preseason WAC selections, coming off 24 wins and a berth in its first NCAA tournament last season. Mid-Major All-American Quinton Hooker returns for North Dakota after averaging 20.1 points a game last season, when they played in the CIT post-season tournament. North Florida returns preseason Player of the Year Dallas Moore and first team preseason player Chris Davenport from last year's NIT team.
Games are slated for 4:30 and 7:00 tip times on Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 and 4:30 on Sunday.
