Down five midway through the third quarter, the Wright State women's basketball team outscored Fort Wayne 34-18 the rest of the way, including 23-12 in the final period, to defeat the Mastodons 62-51 Tuesday afternoon as part of the Wright State Invitational Presented by Holiday Inn at WSU's Nutter Center.

The Raiders led 17-10 on a Symone Simmons jumper with 4:44 remaining in the second quarter, only to see the Mastodons tie the score with seven straight points. Fort Wayne later went up two on a Selena Lozada jumper in the final minute before Antania Hayes evened the score at 21 on a basket heading into the halftime break.
The Mastodons broke a 28-all deadlock with five straight points and later led 37-33 before WSU tallied six unanswered on layups by Mackenzie Taylor, Simmons and Lexi Smith.
Wright State then took the lead for good with seven consecutive points to start the fourth quarter, but Fort Wayne cut the deficit to 55-51 on a Zaria Atkins jumper with 2:38 left.
The Mastodons, though, would get no closer as the Raiders tallied the final seven points of the contest, including a Taylor three to start the run.
Both teams shot the ball well for the contest as Wright State hit for 45 percent, including five of 12 three-pointers, and made nine of 10 foul shots, while Fort Wayne shot 49 percent and was 13 of 16 at the line.
WSU, though, forced 21 turnovers while committing just 10, resulting in a 23-10 differential in points off of turnovers. The Raiders also led 36-24 in points in the paint.
Simmons led the way for Wright State with 16 points while Taylor had 13, Chelsea Welch 12 and Smith a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Wright State (7-4) will face Miami, who defeated Eastern Kentucky in the second game of the day 65-54, for the tournament title Wednesday afternoon at 4:00. EKU and Fort Wayne face each other in the opener at 1:30.
