The Wright State volleyball team lost 3-1 to Cleveland State Friday evening (22-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 20-25) at WSU's McLin Gymnasium.
First Set Highlights
Cleveland State opened the match going on a 3-0 run before freshman middle hitter
Teddie Sauer put down a powerful kill to side out for the Raiders and jump start a 2-0 run. Both teams kept the score close throughout the beginning of the game putting down powerful kills and making athletic digs to push the score to 12-10. With the Vikings in the lead at 15-11 a media timeout was taken. Coming out of the timeout, the Raiders went on a 2-0 run to close in on the Vikings at 15-13 before Cleveland State sided out with a kill. Wright State called their first timeout of the set with the Vikings in the lead at 17-13 after a 2-0 run by Cleveland State. Coming out of the timeout, Sauer posted a powerful kill down the line, jump starting a 3-0 run to pull within one point of the Vikings.  Both teams continued to trade points back-and-forth pushing the score to 21-19 with Cleveland State still in the lead.Â
Megan Hopkins recorded a powerful kill down the line to side out for the Raiders and bring them within one point of the Vikings at 21-20. Senior outside hitter
Katie Klusman rotated to the back row and recorded a service ace for the Raiders to finally tie the game at 21-21. Cleveland State called their first timeout after the Raiders tied the score at 21-21. Coming out of the timeout the teams quickly tied the score again at 22-22 before the Vikings went on a 3-0 run to win the first set at 25-22. Freshman right side hitter
Celia Powers led the Raiders with four kills of Wright State's 12 kills for a .222 hitting percentage.Â
Second Set Highlights
Both teams kept the score close throughout the beginning of the game tying the score at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 before the Vikings went on a 4-0 run to take the lead at 8-4. Wright State called their first timeout of the set at 8-4 to try and slow down the Vikings and shift the momentum back in their favor. Coming out of the timeout Wright State was able to side out immediately after a hitting error by the Vikings. The Raiders pulled within one point at 11-10 after going on a 2-0 run and quickly tied the game at 11-11 after a ball handling error by the Vikings. The teams kept the score close tying the game at 12-12 and 13-13 before Cleveland State called their first timeout of the set. Coming out of the timeout the Vikings put down a powerful kill from the outside to take the lead at 14-13 jump starting a 3-0 run. Wright State kept the heat on the Vikings at the net and tied the game two more times at 16-16 and 17-17 before Cleveland State pulled ahead to 19-17 after a 2-0 run. Wright State decided to call their second timeout of the set to slow down Cleveland State's run at 19-17. Coming out of the timeout, the Raiders took side out after a kill on the outside by Klusman pushing the score to 19-18. The teams kept the score close at the end of the match tying the score twice at 20-20 and 21-21 before the Vikings went on a 2-0 run to take the lead at 23-21. Wright State pulled within one point at 23-22 after a kill from freshman outside hitter
Abby Barcus, but Cleveland State was able to side out and put up a block to win the second set at 25-22. Barcus led the raiders with six kills of Wright State's 15 kills.

Third Set Highlights
Wright State took the early lead at 4-0 after a hitting error by Cleveland State, a kill by Klusman, and powerful back-to-back kills by Powers. Cleveland State took side out and went on a 3-0 run to pull within one point of the Raiders at 4-3 before a service error ended their run. The Raiders went on another run posting three consecutive kills to take the lead at 8-3 before the Vikings called their first timeout of the set at 8-3. Coming out of the timeout both teams had back-to-back service errors which pushed the score to 9-4. Wright State continued to extend their lead after a 3-0 run making the score 12-5 and forcing Cleveland State to take their second timeout early in the set. Coming out of the timeout both teams traded points pushing the score to 14-9 with the Raiders still in the lead. With the Raiders in the lead at 18-11 Hopkins slammed down a kill on the right side to extend Wright State's lead. Wright State took their first timeout 22-16 after the Vikings went on a 2-0 run to close in at 22-16. Coming out of the timeout both teams traded points pushing the score to 23-18 before Hopkins put down a huge kill from the middle to make it set point for the Raiders. A kill from Hopkins ended the set with the Raiders winning 25-19. Hopkins led the Raiders with five kills for an outstanding .625 hitting percentage in the third set.
Fourth Set Highlights
Wright State took another early lead in the fourth set at 3-1, but the Vikings put down back-to-back kills to tie the game at 3-3. Cleveland State quickly took their first lead of the set at 4-3, but a kill from Hopkins allowed the Raiders to tie the game at 4-4. The Vikings pulled ahead at 6-4 after a 2-0 run, but back-to-back kills from Powers allowed the Raiders to tie the game at 6-6. Both teams kept the score close trading points back-and-forth to tie the game multiple times at 7-7, 8-8, and 9-9- before Cleveland State went on a 2-0 run to take the lead at 11-9. Wright State took their first timeout of the set at 11-9 to slow down the Viking's run, but coming out of the timeout Cleveland State continued their run extending their lead to 14-9. Wright State called their second timeout at 14-9. Coming out of the timeout Hopkins put down a kill immediately to side out for the Raiders. Both teams traded points back-and-forth throughout the middle of the set pushing the score to 20-15 with Cleveland State still in the lead. Wright State pulled within four points of the Vikings at 24-20, but a kill from the outside hitter ended the set with Cleveland State winning 25-20. Hopkins led the Raiders in the fourth set with six kills of Wright State's 11 kills.

Wright State continues conference play at home tomorrow taking on Oakland at 4 pm. Wright State will be celebrating Senior Day for the Raiders' five seniors.
