The Wright State baseball team fell behind 4-0 after three innings and could not recover as #10 Clemson evened the weekend series Saturday with a 6-2 decision at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Tigers opened the scoring with an unearned run in the first and extended their lead to 4-0 on a three-run home run by Seth Beer in the third.
WSU picked up a run in the fifth as a sacrifice fly by Brandon Giltrow plated Kevin Whatley, who reached on an error and advanced to third on a Seth Gray hit through the right side.
The Raiders cut the deficit to 4-2 with another run in the seventh as Whatley reached on catcher's interference, stole second and came on a Gray double to left center, but Clemson answered with a pair of runs in its half of the seventh to round out the scoring.
Gray finished with two hits and a RBI to lead the WSU offense.
Wright State (1-1) and Clemson (1-1) will play the rubber game of the series Sunday at 1:00.
