Wright State finishes the season at 27-28 on the season with a 17-7 mark in Horizon League play, clinching its eighth straight Horizon League regular season title.
Â
Wright State opened the day defeating No. 5 Oakland to advance to the championship game.
Â
Oakland jumped all over the Raiders early in the first game of the day, jumping out to a 5-0lead. The Golden Grizzlies scored a single tally in the top of the second and four runs in the top of the third.
Â
Wright State responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to three runs. Andrew Duncan would be the one to get the Raiders on the board, parking a two-run homer over the wall in left center. The homer marks Duncan's sixth of the season.
Â
The Raiders would then erupt for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a lead they would not relinquish. Cy Turner opened the scoring in the frame by stealing third base and coming in to score when the throw from the Oakland catcher leaked into left field. Wright State would tie the game with back-to-back RBI singles from Braylen Blomquist and Hunter Warren. Gus Gregory would give the Raiders the lead thanks to a bases-loaded walk. JP Peltier would follow Gregory, breaking the game wide open a few pitches later with a bases-clearing triple. Patrick Fultz would put the icing on the cake with an RBI double up the right field line to give the Raiders a 10-5 advantage.
Â
Peltier would add another run of insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning, roping an RBI double up the left field line to score Gregory.
Â
Cooper Robinson got the start on the mound for the Raiders, pitching 2.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts before turning the ball over to the Wright State bullpen. The Raiders' bullpen combined for 6.1 innings of shutout baseball. Matthew Johnson picked up the win, pitching 1.2 innings before turning the ball over to Brett Denby for 2.2 innings and Cooper Gilkerson for 2.0 innings.
Â
After a 45-minute break, the Raiders would take on No. 2 Milwaukee, looking to force an if-necessary game eight.
Â
Zac Butler would open the scoring for the Raiders against Milwaukee in the top of the second, serving a sacrifice fly out to center, bringing Peltier home from third.
Â
Milwaukee would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dylan O'Connell roped a two-run double up the left field line. The Panther would follow up with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth off the bat of Christian Holmes.
Â
The Raiders would bounce back with three runs in the top of the ninth to regain the lead from Milwaukee. Warren would get the party started with a bases-loaded hit by pitch, and Cam Gilkerson would play hero, serving a two-run single out to left center, bringing in Blomquist and Parker Falkenstein.
