DAYTON- The top-seeded Wright State baseball team dropped its winners' bracket game to No. 2 Milwaukee Friday morning at Nischwitz Stadium, falling 4-1.
Â
Wright State (26-27, 17-7) will face off against Oakland in an elimination game for a chance to play Milwaukee on championship Saturday. The first pitch for the elimination game against the Golden Grizzlies is TBA due to forecasted inclement weather in the area.
Â
Griffen Paige got the start on the mound for the Raiders, pitching solid in a tough luck loss. The left-hander pitched a career-high 130 pitches across 7.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out 10 Milwaukee batters. Paige's 10 strikeouts match his career-best set earlier this season against Indiana State.
Â
Milwaukee would open the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, giving them a lead they would never relinquish. Charlie Marion would come in to score on a throwing error, and Dominic Kibler would bring home Dylan O'Connell a few pitches later with an RBI groundout.
Â
Keegan Holmstrom would get the Raiders on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning, bringing home Braylen Blomquist.
Â
Both teams' pitching staff continued to throw zeroes on the scoreboard, with the Raiders leaving a runner on base in seven innings, including leaving them loaded twice.
Â
Milwaukee would find a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning when Marion parked a two-run homer over the wall in right field.
Â
Milwaukee would turn the ball over to Horizon League reliever of the year, Camden Kuhnke, who pitched two shutout innings with a trio of strikeouts to secure the win for Milwaukee and his sixth save of the season.
Â
Chet Lax was the lone man out of the Raider bullpen, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out three Milwaukee batters.
